THE TRADITION OF SACRIFICE

Ibn’ Umar said: “It is (the Prophet’s) tradition and it is a charitable deed.”
Al-Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Prophet (may the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him) said (on the day of Id al-Adha): “The first thing we will do on this day of ours’ is to offer the (Id) prayer and then return to slaughter the sacrifice. That who has followed this order has really followed our tradition, and whoever slaughtered the sacrifice before the prayer, he offered just meat to his family, and that will not be considered as sacrifice.” (On hearing that Abu Burda bin Niyar got up, for he had slaughtered the sacrifice before the prayer, and said: “I have got a six months old ram”. The Prophet(may the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Slaughter it (as a sacrifice) but it will not be permissible for any other person after you.”
Al-Bara’ added: The Prophet (May the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “That who slaughtered (the sacrifice) after the prayer, he slaughtered it at the right time and followed the tradition of the Muslims”. (SAHIH AL BUKHARI VOL: 7 THE BOOK OF ADAHI HADITH: 5545)

The distribution of meat of the sacrfices of Imam among people

‘Uqba bin ‘Amer Al-Juhani narrated that The Prophet (May the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him) distributed among his companions some animal for sacrifice (to be slaughtered on ID AL-ADHA). Uqba’s was a Jadha’a a (six month old goat). Uqba said: “O Allah’s Apostle! I get in my share a Jadha’a a (six month old goat)”. The Prophet (May the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Slaughter it as a sacrifice”.

Meat is desired on the day of Immolation

Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Prophet (May the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him) said on the day of Immolation: “That who has slaughtered his sacrifice before the prayer, should slaughter another (sacrifice) once more”. A man got up and said: “O Allah Apostle! This is a day on which meat is desired”. He then mentioned his neighbors saying: “I have a six month old ram which is to me better than the meat of two sheep”. The Prophet (May the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him) allow him to slaughter it as a sacrifice, but I do not know whether this permission was valid for other than that man or not. The Prophet (May the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him) then went towards two rams and slaughtered them, and then the people went towards some sheep and distributed them among themselves.

The saying of the Prophet (may the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him)to Abu Burda: “Slaughter the one year old goat as a sarifice (of Id Al-Adha)’ but it will not be sufficient for any body else after you”

Al-Bara’ narrated: Abu Burda slaughtered (the sacrifice) before the Id prayer where upon The Prophet (may the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him) said to him: “Slaughter another sacrifice instead of that”
Abu Burda said: “I have nothing except a Jad’a”. (Shu’ba said: perhaps Abu Burda also said that Jadhdh’a was better than an old sheep in his opinion). The Prophet (May the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “(Never mind), slaughter it to make up for the other one, but it will not be sufficient for anyone else after you”.
(SAHIH AL BUKHARI VOL: 7 THE BOOK OF ADAHI HADITH: 5557)

That who slaughtered his sacrifice with his own hands

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Prophet (may the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him) slaughtered two rams, black and white in colour (as sacrifices), and I saw him putting his foot on their sides and mentioning Allah’s Name and exclaiming Allah is the Greatest. Then He slaughtered them with his own hands.

That who slaughtered the sacrifices on behalfof others. Some man helped Ibn ‘Umar in slaughtering his camel. Abu Musa ordered his daughters to slaughter their sacrifices with their own hands

Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: Allah’s Apostle (May the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him) entered upon me at Sarif while I was weeping (because I was afraid that I would not be able to perform Hajj). He said: “What is wrong with you? Have you got your period?” I replied: “Yes”. He said: “This a matter Allah has decreed for all the daughters of Adam, so perform the ceremonies of the Hajj as the pilgrims do, but do not perform the circumambulation around KA’BA”. Allah’s Apostle(may the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him) slaughtered some cows as sacrifices on behalf of his wives. (SAHIH AL BUKHARI VOL: 7 THE BOOK OF ADAHI HADITH: 5559)

If someone sends his animal for sacrifice to be slaughtered the nothing lawful is rendered unlawful for him

Masruq narrated that he went to Aisha and said to her: “O the Mother of the Believers! There is a man who sends the animal for sacrifice to the Ka’ba and stays in his city and requests that his sacrifice be garlanded while he remains in a state of Ihram from that day till the people finish their Ihram (after completing all the ceremonies of Hajj)”. I heard the clapping of her hands behind the curtain (which was a sign of her surprise). She said: “I used to twist the garlands for the sacrifice of Allah’s Apostle (may the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him) And he used to send his animal for sacrifice to the Ka’ba but he never used to regard as unlawful what was lawful for men to do with their wives till the people returned (from the Hajj)”.
